More Smoke & Mirrors

The local candidate running for election for the State Senate has proposed an earth-shattering bill to: put criminals in jail for up to ten years for crimes such as stealing from grocers. Big Deal! Good Lord, we already have competent judges and police, along with plenty of laws on the books already about stealing!

How about a law against stealing my property tax money for schools?!

How about a law to make the energy-purchasing people honeset instead of buying off several large users for a few million bucks in order to raise their rates to the rest of the public?!

How about a law that says the PUCO will guard the rights of all the people in this state?!

How about a law that says the school cannot raise your property tax without a vote from the people?!

How about a law that says the township cannot willey-nilley purchase large amounts of property to be paid for by the people with TIF (taxes in future) money, just because the trustees believe that this is what is good for the community?! This expenditure is not minor. Just in the last couple of years, these trustees have spent between $4-$8 million on property, without bothering to get a single vote from the public.

We fought a war some 235 years ago over taxing without representation. Do we have to do it again? We CAN, people! This time, though, we MUST use the ballot box!

The people who are not doing their job in this legislature must go. The local Republican Representatives and State Senators are not doing their job! They are trying to rule with smoke and mirrors! They certainly do not deserve the support of the voters come November 4. NO EXCUSE for not voting this year. Anyone can vote by absentee ballot very easily. What's Wrong With This Picture?

My, oh my. Talk about chutzpah! Senator Voinovich has really got the nerve of a burglar! He has the audacity to ask that the Brent Spence Bridge be made into a toll bridge.

That's the same senator who:

• Wants big tax breaks for the richest 5%.
• Votes to spend $3 billion a week for a lost cause in Iraq.
• Yes, spend $3 billion a week for as long as it takes to help out these poor people in Iraq -- people who are never going to love Americans. Why? Because we are infidels.

-- But spend less than a billion dollars to fix a bridge that carries 150,000 vehicles daily and contributes enormously to the economic wellbeing of millions of Americans. Oh, we can't do that! That's too expensive!

Will the Iraqis ever be ready for us to pull out? I don't think so. Simply would not make any sense to get rid of this gold machine. This is a problem I can't do anything about; however, I can complain and holler when some rich Senator wants to throw the cost of this bridge on the poor and middle class people. We have been paying on gasoline tax since the 1950s for construction and maintenance of interstate highways! Get the money from there, senator, or better still, deviate 2 days pay that is being earmarked for Iraq.

What's wrong with this picture? All that I can see is that the Republicans continually want to run the government at the expense of middle class America. Give the middle class a break. Get your hands out of our wallets. Everything they do is aimed at killing the middle class. I don't understand this government!

I need your help to get my points across in the legislature. We do need a change in the direction this country is going. Let's have a little for Americans first for a change!

A Call to Action

Are you optimistic about the future of Ohio?

Do you feel as I do, that the nation is in a recession, a very serious recession?

Does the condition of the economy worry you and the direction that this country is going?

Do you want a change in policies?

If you do, then there is good news. The State Democratic Caucus is working on a very long list of initiatives to get Ohio back on track to propserity and stability.

This does not include raising taxes to acheive our goals.

• A $52 billion spending plan for fiscal year 2008-2009 will be the lowest budget growth in 42 years.
• A $257 million annual tax relief for seniors on their property tax is scheduled.
• Reducing school reliance on property taxes for their revenue.
• Healthcare for all children.
• Government bureaucracies that are accountable to the people.
• Enhancing the quality of school for secondary students.
• Improving the ability to get a college education for even the poor in the inner-city.
• Provide every child a fair start.

The Democratic Caucus has a great many items to look into and improve upon and for that reason, it must have a majority in the legislature. Reforming an initiative will not just happen on its own.

For this reason, it is very important that Bob Klug and others like Bob are elected to the legislature. It is very important to have financial support from the average voter. Anything from $20 to $1000 helps immensely.

Columbus Caucus

I had the pleasure of going to Columbus last Friday to attend the Ohio House Democratic Caucus Training Session.

It was very enlightening to say the least. One item became very clear at this meeting --Ohio was left a financial mess by the outgoing administration. However, Governor Strickland is not moaning and groaning about it, but has developed a plan that not only addresses the problems, but actually sees to it that the state returns to profitability in the very near future without a huge jump in taxes.

There will still be a property tax relief of $257 million for seniors annually.

General tax relief increases from $70 to $330 million annually.

Reducing reliance on property taxes to fund school revenues, while still keeping schools at the highest priority.

Reducting administrative costs. This goes with what I've been preaching about the bureaucracies in the state.

Making college more affordable for all of our citizens.

This is a very exciting time to be running as a Democrat because the governor needs the support of the people to get a great agenda adopted. He can only get that done by having candidates like myself elected to the legislature.

I wish I could spell out all the things that he wants to do, however, I simply don't have the time and the space for all of it.
