Green Township Administrator Kevin Celarek is going to decide for us, the tax payers, how big an operating levy we need in order to pay salaries, etc. for the people who work for the township. Nevermind that it seems we the taxpayers have no say at all when the "Big Three" decide that we need another park, one on Reemelin and on West Fork, or when it's just good business to purchase property adjacent to the Senior Center on Eply Road or to purchase a westside landmark-- the old Wagon Wheel. Down the torpedoes, full speed ahead, we have T.I.F. money for that.
Well to me it seems that it is just plain good manners and good government to ask the taxpayers of the district whether or not they think that government funds should be spent for this edification. Personally, my wife and I are living on a retiree's fixed income. We figure that just in the last 23 to 30 months that we have lost about 25 percent of our buying power to raises in just fuel and groceries alone-- not to mention tha we can't even begin to imagine how much gas and electric is going to increase in the coming years.
So we definitely have had enough of "Smoke & Mirrors" governing. T.I.F. money might be agreat way to build up township ownership, but the old fashioned levy must be used to get money to pay for the things needed to run parks, cut grass, clean up debris, which all happen when you offer parks to the public.
I think our present trustees got it all wrong, to me at least, they were elected to run a government that is truly township oriented. If they want to be a city, an incorprated entity that works for the needs of all the people, they could do well to enter into a partnership with Cheviot. They could then do all the things that are proposed and maybe even correctly! But then we would need a council of seven or nine members elected at large to represent the many different opinions that we have here in this township.
This system of "one man control" should have gone out with Boss Cox in his day, but there is always, it seems, someone who can shade an issue to convince or try to convince the dumb public that they know what is best for all.
Power corrupts; total power corrupts, absolutely. This is the state that Ohio is in, until 2 years ago when Strickland broke the mold, the corruption and selfish partisanship control that republicans had in the legislature for the past 20 years, left a black mark on the way that this state did its business.
It's going to take a tremendous amount of good "thinking outside the box" to return Ohio to the 21st century and the "greatest place on earth to raise a family, have a business and be a member of the middle class" that is the way of the rest of this world.
It can happen again though, if we are smart enough to know how to fuel the flames of freedom and opportunity for our young people who are now just getting started on a plan for a very productive and satisfying life.
I have several proposals to help all the people and especially the middle class people achieve a solid and satisfactory life in the workplace. This can only happen if I am elected to the legislature and we get several others like myself into office.
When this happens, I am sure that there will be a gold mine of ideas and proposals to bring this great state of Ohio into the 21st Century.
